Goldenrod Depot opened its doors in September 2023 in beautiful downtown Danby New York. Located in the Danby Gathery building, Goldenrod Depot is a multifaceted gift shop with a mix of old and new. We truly hope that everyone finds something that speaks to them at our store. We are excited to be a fixture in the Danby community and look forward to welcoming you into our store.
Our story...
When owner, Elana Maragni, saw that the large retail space at the Danby Gathery was going to be available to rent, the wheels in her head got to turning... Having 20 year's experience in retail and customer service, Elana had always had it in the back of her mind that she could open a store of her own. And the most appealing part of the space was that it was only 3 minutes from her house and as a busy mother of 2, this was an important factor. The space was also so beautifully renovated that it was inspiring and exciting to envision a store in the space. The name Goldenrod Depot came slowly but surely to Elana as she wanted to celebrate the rural beauty of Danby where she grew up and also be welcoming and approachable. Goldenrod being a sturdy, familiar and sunny plant also seemed like an appropriate choice to represent a blossoming new business in the countryside. Goldenrod Depot is a family business so don't be surprised if you see Elana's kids, husband, mom, or ever her dog behind the counter!
